Retrospective: Salonen

What happens when one of the most visionary conductors and composers of our time is given free rein to create his own concert? In Retrospective: Salonen, you are invited to an evening where boundaries are blurred, both between then and now and between genres. With innovative works by Salonen himself and Jesper Nordin, electronic landscapes, and Rebecka Törnqvist's personal interpretations of Eva Dahlgren's and Anders Hillborg's music, it becomes an exclusive musical reflection of a unique artistry, and a jewel in Salonen's string of concerts during the season as Artist in Residence!

In addition to Esa-Pekka Salonen, the concert will feature the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, singer Rebecka Törnqvist, double bassist Rick Stotijn, the electronic ensemble Elefantöra (Elephant ear), and the dance ensemble Work – the latter two from the organisation ShareMusic & Performing Arts.

Salonen is the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s Artist in Residence during the 2025/2026 season. His own work Stockholm Diary for string orchestra opens the program and is followed by an electronic interlude created by the groundbreaking ensemble Elefantöra from ShareMusic & Performing Arts. Jesper Nordin’s Solid Ground (4th Retrospective) puts older musical material in a new light through his own technology Reactional Music/Gestrument and in collaboration with Rick Stotijn on double bass and dancers from the group Work who worked here with movement director Charlotte Darbyshire.

Songs from Anders Hillborg’s evocative The Strand Settings and the iconic album Jag vill se min älskade komma från det vilda (I want to see my loved one arrive from the wild), written together with Eva Dahlgren, are given new life through acclaimed singer Rebecka Törnqvist’s innovative and personal interpretations.
